Mastering a language is so much more than using the grammar correctly. Our ideas about funny and sad, behaving correctly and even being a good teacher are deeply rooted in our native cultures. Being a part of a multicultural classroom might be challenging not only for students, but also for the teacher. Should we engage students in active discussions if speaking up is not common in their countries? How to be sensitive but not artificially politically correct?
This interactive workshop invites EFL instructors to learn about cultural intelligence, a soft skill that teaches effective diversity management. You will actively reflect on who you and your students are, your values and communication styles. You will learn how to build a lasting professional relationship with students from various cultural backgrounds and boost their learning outcomes.
