American-Russian Relations -- Twentieth Century after 1933 and Contemporary Relations

1933 marks the beginning of diplomatic relations between the Soviet Union and the United States. Despite ideological differences the two countries co-operated in fighting Nazi Germany, but became irreconcilable opponents during the Cold War. The end of the Cold War and the dissolution of the Soviet Union introduced an imbalance in favor of the United States that Russia has tried to correct. The course of the new American administration under President Donald Trump remains open.
