Programme in English: Jane Austen - Past and Present
In honour of Jane Austen's 250th birthday, we will discuss three of her novels in this course (first session: Northanger Abbey; second session: Pride and Prejudice; third session: Persuasion). We will also look at the historical, cultural and literary background to her work, talk about various film versions and adaptations such as Bridget Jones's Diary, and discuss why Jane Austen remains so popular, not only as a classic of English literature, but also in popular culture.
