A House Divided: How America's Civil War Tested and Strengthened a Nation (ab B1+)

The "peculiar institution" of slavery was the major factor in America’s War Between the States, but it was not the only one. We will look at slavery and the other economic, social and political factors which caused brothers to shoot at brothers and fathers to fight against their sons. Women were also affected, as they were forced to taken on new roles.
Beyond the battles, we will focus more on the social aspects of life in America just before, during and shortly after the war. From the ashes of America’s deadliest war, seeds were planted which sprouted, bloomed and grew into a new nation. Even today, many might argue that the healing process from that war is not yet complete.
