American Political Culture

This presentation will ask in which ways American political culture is distinct from European traditions. It will discuss the impact of Calvinist Protestantism on an American work ethic, the claim of a "Manifest Destiny" and exceptionalism, and the impact of the frontier experience on notions of freedom and individualism. It will also question the myth of the "American Dream" in light of contemporary societal changes as well as the self-perception as an immigrant country after 9-11-2001.
