The Brewing Process at Hofbräu München-Riem

Dissatisfied with the beer brewed in Munich, Wilhelm V, the Duke of Bavaria (1579-1597) and his household imported beer from the town of Einbeck in Lower Saxony. To save costs but continue with the pleasure, it was decided that they should build their own brewery. The Brewmaster of Geisenfeld Monastery was brought in to plan and supervise the construction of the Hofbräuhaus (the "ducal brewery"). Hofbräu München-Riem opens its doors for an insight into its history and the brewing process. A brewery tour would of course not be complete without a taste of a freshly tapped, unfiltered beer at the beer bar in the fermenting room, alongside a hearty Bavarian ploughman’s lunch.
